- Healthy life expectancy at birth m/f (years, 2003): 53/54.
- 49 % of the world's underweight children, 34% of the world's stunted children and 46% of the world's wasted children, live in India.
According to the United Nations
- More than 56% pf households do not have electricity connections in India
- 27.5% of Indians live below the poverty line
- More than 60% of women in India are chronically poor
